“Break a vase
and the love it takes
to reassemble
the fragments,
is stronger
than that love,
which took it’s symmetry for granted
when it was whole”

Derek Walcott

BRUCE SILVERMAN, MA, Ph.D. (Hon) is a counselor in private practice since 1984, working with individuals, couples, families, and groups.

Bruce was trained in the Masters Program of Counseling Psychology at John F. Kennedy University, and also has considerable experience in a variety of music therapy and energetic healing modalities including three years of training and certification in the intuitive healing arts. He was ordained as a “Teaching Elder” by Matthew Fox’s Creation Spirituality Community in 2016. Bruce has been in private practice in the S.F. Bay Area since 1984, and has offices in Berkeley and Pleasant Hill where he works with individuals, couples, families and groups.

Bruce utilizes a wide variety of traditional therapeutic techniques and has considerable experience with relationship and communication issues, grieving and loss, trauma, abuse, depression and anxiety. His considerable training in transpersonal realms gives him a broader perspective for his creative and embodied dream work, archetypal gestalt work, rites of passage elements, and healing/sound work.

He is an expert in men's issues; he founded the Sons of Orpheus in 1987 and continues to direct this well known men's healing community. He has published a variety of articles in men's journals and was honored with a full page article in Newsweek Magazine. (June:1991) This community expanded to also include women in 1990. Clients often find it helpful to move from individual work to group work as the process unfolds. Bruce continues to lead the two evening groups: one exclusively for men, the other, mixed.

Bruce sees private clients in both Berkeley and Pleasant Hill
